Dr. Eng. Ayu Purwarianti is a distinguished academic and leader in the field of artificial intelligence, currently serving as the Researcher of the Artificial Intelligence Center at the Bandung Institute of Technology. She is also a lecturer in Electrical & Informatics Engineering at the same institution. Her academic journey includes earning a Doctorate in Engineering from the Doctoral Program in Information and Computer Science at Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan, which underscores her deep expertise in her field.Chee Seng is a Full Professor at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia.
Currently, he is leading a research team that specializes in computer vision and machine learning; where his team has published more than 100 papers in top peer-review [i.e. CCF A or CORE A*/A] conferences (CVPR, NeurIPS, IJCAI, etc) and journals (TPAMI, TIP, TMM etc). From 2020-2022, he was seconded to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) as the Undersecretary for the Division of Data Strategic and Foresight, as well as the Lead of the PICC Unit under COVID-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).
Scholarly, he received Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) in 2022, Young Scientists Network Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM) in 2015 and Hitachi Research Fellowship in 2013. Besides that, he is also a senior member of IEEE, Professional Engineer (BEM) and Chartered Engineer (IET). To date, he has secured more than RM 3M research funding as the Principal Investigator from local and international bodies.
Dr. Eng. Her work includes initiatives like NusaCrowd, an open-source project for Indonesian NLP resources, and IndoNLU, a benchmark for evaluating Indonesian natural language understanding. These projects highlight her commitment to advancing technology that supports the Indonesian language and culture.
In addition to her research, Dr. Ayu has been involved in various projects that apply AI to practical problems, such as sentiment analysis on social media, sarcasm detection, and emotion classification. Her work in developing tools like the InaNLP toolkit for processing Indonesian language data further demonstrates her dedication to enhancing computational linguistics. Dr. Ayu's contributions to the field are not only academic but also practical, as she continues to push the boundaries of AI and machine learning in Indonesia and beyond.
